Logo day

It was probably about 12 years ago when I designed my first logo for a client. Since than I have done so many I couldn't give a number if I tried. I guess in one sense I have been making logos my whole life due to working up designs for graffiti and drawing names for people. In my spare time away from Fine Art and with fairly close clients, friends and family I get the chance to do a logo here and there. I generally don't do commissions for clients that I don't know because it is really not my focus and the process of getting to know a company and a client well enough to produce a valid logo takes a long time. I do however really enjoy creating logos. They are a small way to speak volumes about the image of a company. What I have done today is not necessarily your standard logo. This is a lot more complicated visually than I would normally do for a logo but given the nature of the business that it's for it works being this elaborate. An irish bar with a modern twist. This logo was created in Adobe Illustrator CS2 which has an amazing trace function in it that will clean up any hand drawn art in a hurry. Before that feature I used to go through a lengthy process to turn hand drawn art into a vector art image. The end purpose for this logo is to be made into an outdoor sign for a new Irish bar called "Panic McGeez" which will be opening up in Herkermer NY soon. The client hasn't seen the logo yet and normally you would show them some roughs first before you move into a finsihed product like this but I like to work this way. If I understand what the client wants and the flow is moving when I am designing than I go all out and bring it to a finish. It is much easier to sell the idea to a client when they can see your vision fully rendered than trying to push a rough draft on them. I generally get good results like this. I would however caution you not do it that way until you have the trust of your client. If I were still working as an art director I would have the client approve the process in steps. I happen to know this client very well so he is accustomed to how I work and allows me the freedom to just make it happen. Hope you enjoy this logo.
