I've been given the opportunity to design, and direct the following project. The image above is the comp for the mural and it is a little hard to see but this is just a teaser. The mural is a 10' high x 240' two sided tunnel. That's 120' per side. It will be completed in under a week and will be finished by Labor day this year, 2010. The entire project is going to be filmed by John Bragino and a documentary will be produced so stay tuned…….

Project Mission Statement:
Create a mural utilizing volunteerism and creativity to bring the community together and create a source of pride and beauty at West Gilgo. Change the underpass area from its current state (wasted space, eye sore, drain on the community) to a source of culture, creativity, & community involvement.

Design statement:
As you enter the tunnel and walk down the right side youll notice the LEFT WALL which is side one of the mural and intended to be viewed first. Winter is breaking and birds are beginning to reappear on the trees. As the scene progresses spring comes into full view with fish swimming towards the ocean.
As they approach summertime they gather in celebration. Swimming fish become tribal in nature flattening out on the wall and becoming grafitti like in
design. As side one ends the fish begin to morph back and swim upward high into the water getting smaller as they approach the sky. By the time they
reach side two theyre swimming low again amidst a coral reef. THE RIGHT wall shows fall emerging into an abstract configuration of mermaid like
forms that meet head to head with the birds fleeing the impending winter heading towards warmer and greener pastures. As fall turns into winter and the
experience of the seasons comes to a close your met with an archway of twisted trees on the ceiling and a lone bird pointing your way back home.

Participating artists:
Peter Bragino
John Bragino
Kevin Corcoran
Lisa Distefano
Christine Kane
Jeff Slack
Jennifer Quinn
Sonia Vera-Leon

Sometimes you get ideas to do things that consume you like this little project. To get ready for a party at my gallery I decided to make a spaceman for people to take pictures with. With some suggestions from friends and family it turned into a figure whose arms would also move. I did a compositional sketch for the project and with about 8 working hours and little sleep created what turned out to be a pretty awesome spaceman set….

Back in June, myself and fellow artist Kevin Corcoran decided to move into Brooklyn in search of greater exposure to the art world of New York City…..We were looking for a loft space to do some light rennovation…What we didn't realize at the time was that the project we were embarking on would be anything but light and that 6 months of building, design, and cooperative creation would yield such an amazing entity. We've created a loft, a studio, and a Gallery in one of the hottest markets of NY. We're proud to announce the Grand Opening of…………

I've been absent from this blog for some time now for many reasons which are all good and entail growth in my evolution as an artist, and a business person. I'm currently in the process of building a 3 story loft style studio and gallery named "THECEEFLAT". I'll be posting images of our progress soon. My fellow artist and friend Kevin Corcoran will be sharing the space and we have some pretty amazing things in store for the gallery. One of the highlights of the space is a 22 x 12 foot billboard on the roof that we'll be utilizing to create artwork on. As soon as the building process slows down a bit I'll be putting up a full section about the Gallery. We're located at 988 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY right above "The Habitat" which is a hip little bar and restaurant. You can check them out at the following address….www.thehabitatbrooklyn.com Stay tuned…..

Here's the comp I painted in photoshop of my idea for this wall mural.

Here's a picture of the completed mural by Kevin Corcoran and I.

Below is the image that Daisy Dudley made using my digital camera on a 30 second exposure and drawing with a pen light. *Note that she had to stand behind where these letter were written and write them backwards. I'd say she nailed it…….

Here's a quick post to let you know that we're going to be back down at Gilgo beach, Sunday July 22nd, 2007 to paint yet another wall mural in the underpass. The first ones were such a success that they've asked us to come back and paint some more. Here's a shot of the proposed image to be put on the wall. Kevin Corcoran and I will be teaming up once again to recreate this image for all the beach goers to enjoy at Gilgo. John Bragino, who's currently in film school will be filming and making a short documentary of this mural. I'm proud to be able to introduce you to the creativity of my youngest brother John with this documentary so stay tuned and check back, you won't want to miss it. Show starts at 9am and will go on into the evening. See ya there……

You can now view 16 of my images in New York City at Pre:Post Restaurant, a great place to eat in the heart of the Chelsea Gallery District. Pre:Post is located on West 27th Street between 10th and 11th avenue. The food at Pre:Post is First Class and the interior is amazing. They have log cabin style booths and a sunk down back Cabana area all done with a super chic modern flair. The restaurant was designed by Stephane Dupoux who's resume includes Buddah Bar, Quo, Opium, and Cielo in NYC. You can view full sized images of the entire painting installation by visiting the About Section.
